NCAA Men’s Basketball
It doesn’t get much madder for Louisville fans than when CBS cut away from a very close Louisville/Siena game Sunday night to air the final minutes of the Missouri/Marquette Game. What were they thinking? According to Glenn Haywood, local affiliate WLKY General Manager, it was a network error, “they were to have provided a constant feed of live game action.” Opening round coverage on CBS was up 9% in viewership from last year.
Daily Newspaper Madness
Another daily newspaper bit the dust today…the Ann Arbor News follows the Seattle Post Intelligencer in eliminating their print edition and going on-line only. Look for more newspapers to follow suit. Other changes among daily papers intended to improve their financial woes include:
1. Collapsing edit sections
2. Standardizing ad units
3. Sharing editorial staffs
4. Eliminating home delivery
Newspapers have lost readership to on-line news sources and revenues to classified advertising, which has also gone on-line.
One-Hour Delay
President Obama scheduled a TV News Conference this week prompting a one hour delay of Dancing with the Stars. How will the show’s 30+ million fans react? Better than if the show were pre-empted, but some complaints are sure to come. The news conference aired across all major networks from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
Tweeting Madness
Twitter, only three years old, has grown from 575,000 unique visitors per month in February 2008 to over 7 million unique visitors per month in February 2009! Older adults are tweeting like mad! Adults between the ages of 35 and 49 make up over 42% of traffic to the site, and over 16% of visitors are age 55 or older – amazing stats!
Mad About Running
A year ago a group of Doe-Anderson folks were training for the miniMarathon. Several finished, but only one has plans to run in 2009. Bill Schelling is dedicated, disciplined and fast. He will join over 10,000 runners on April 25. Good luck, Bill.
